The World Looks The Same

Once proud, now I am afraid,
Scared of shadows, but there I stay,
Light is too bright, it burns my eyes,
So I have become a creature of the night

It seems to be a dark night,
No stars in the sky, no street lights,
Walking alone, I feel all my thoughts,
I can’t believe I let it come this far
***
No reason to turn back, I have changed,
No use in pretending, I gave it away,
Can’t become what I could have,
Had I never took this trail
***
Where to go and what to be,
Can’t even seem to finish the race
I was once meant to lead,
How could I let myself come down on my knees?
***
Once proud, now I am afraid,
Scared of shadows, but there I stay,
Light is too bright, it burns my eyes,
So I have become a creature of the night
***
I have come too far, my spark has disappeared,
Darkness conquers my soul, unopposed, no fears,
I used to try and create rainbows in the sky,
But now I don’t even notice butterflies passing me by
***
I wish it was just one of those bad nightmares,
Waking from it with confidence, saying this will never be,
But that courageous girl has gone, only I remain,
Eyes closed shut or wide open, the world looks the same.
***

Just one of those unsure, insecure, late night troubled thoughts…

  1. Darkness allows my brain to relax by processing less imaging through the eyes. There is so much computing power connected through the eyes that when I see so much less, I relax so much more. It’s nice to learn of your experiences with darkness. Sometimes I would like to turn out all the lights of the whole universe and relax eternally.

      1. You oughta come to my house sometime just to say hi. No, better yet, don’t tell me you’re coming. Knock on the door, throw a pie in my face when I open the door and run away. That would be more fun. Then, I’d be forever guessing over what just happened.

  2. This is fantastic. I have literally lived the poem a few years back in my life. Going through the poem I was looking for a single moment I could flag as “exaggeration”. But I couldn’t. It’s said, ‘Art is a lie that tells the truth’ , but when the truth is itself this dark, its enough of an art I believe.

    1. Thank you for your comment and for stopping by to read my blog. Knowing you understood the emotions I wanted to convey through this poetry, makes me happy. Just being understood, even without offering any solution, somehow is enough to calm me. So thank you for understanding my poetry
