Two Steps Back, Three Steps Forward

The playful mischievous self was caged within
In a dark cellar, with the air so thin

Closed up with (un)necessary precautions
Created a world where she had to stay vigilant
Took two steps back before taking three steps forward
Alert, awake with minimal real interactions

***

Self doubt was her eternal constant
Logic guided her though every direction
The playful mischievous self was caged within
In a dark cellar, with the air so thin

***

She knew why real emotions were bygone
In this reality that reminded her of a sad song
Pages and pages of torn apart feelings
Written on dusted walls and ceilings

***

Hurt only once for she swears ‘never again’
Wasn’t okay to let go, she repeated it each day
Determined to walk the path ahead
She had to do what she must to thrive instead
