Breaking Free

But now you are gone, only thoughts that remain,
I tried to recollect but only sadness came,
I am breaking free!

I liked the way my presence was felt
In your life, I meant the world you said,
But now words are just hollow instead,
I tried but failed and can’t take the stress,
I am breaking free!

I liked the way my name felt with yours,
The way we connected , the way we saw it all,
But things are memories only if they are remembered,
I tried to keep it alive but they got lost in teary feathers,
I am breaking free!

I liked the sound of your voice, your calls,
The way I saw the world under the protection of yours,
But now you are gone, only thoughts that remain,
I tried to recollect but only sadness came,
I am breaking free!

I liked the dreams you dreamt for us,
I thought of ways to make it work,
But you didn’t see,  dejected or irritated was all you decided to be,
I tried to keep you above me but my mind rejected to feel,
I am breaking free!

I won’t look back till you see me as me,
I am leaving only to make you remember me,
A stranger now that meant the world to me,
I wish you knew what I needed you to be,
Till then, I am breaking free.

Sometimes letting go is the only option left. Sometimes, it is wiser to find your ground first, rather than trying to lift someone else while you are struggling through quicksand.

I was thinking on these lines when I wrote this poem.
