But Hey!

I stood by you in the darkest corner,
Raised you up after every new failure,
Predicted your hurt and amended your wrongs,
But hey! did you try to understand me at all?

I gave you the love you needed,
Made you strong enough to help those who needed,
Understood you like my own open book,
But hey! Did you try to make things work like they should?

I gave you my share of everything,
Told you all the things you needed,
Calmed you into a deep night sleep,
But hey! Did you make an effort for me?

I stood by you in the darkest corner,
Raised you up after every new failure,
Predicted your hurt and amended your wrongs,
But hey! did you try to understand me at all?

I chose you over anyone else,
Not because I had no other choice, no other self,
I chose like you had shown me, yourself,
But Hey! Did you think of me whenever you fell?

I was there for you through it all,
I thought you cherished it all,
Now you say you were better without,
But hey! Did you really think you could have lasted this long?

You pushed me away, but I chose to stay,
You needed, although you didn’t want to say,
No one else would have told you what I had to say,
But hey! Did you really think it had no change ?

I became whatever you needed me to be,
Changed with every new thing you chose to be,
Gave you my hours and stuff to keep,
But hey! Did you try to be there for me?

Gave you freedom, gave you wings,
Let you become the monster : The new thing,
Chose to ignore every wrong you ever did,
But hey! did you even think of me through all this?

I wrote this poem when I fought with a friend. It is based on a mix of real incidents and imaginary scenarios.
